Abstract
The essay examines the book of British Ambassador George Macartney in Russia during the reign of Catherine II, he wrote his book after completing his mission in our country. Although the book is not devoid of stereotypes, it can rightly be considered a kind of encyclopedia of the Russian society in the early years of the reign of Empress.
