Abstract
The role and mechanisms of social networks functioning in the context of everyday social practices of the population of the Belgorod region are investigated. Based on the data obtained during the interview, it is concluded that the population is involved in social network interactions based primarily on family and friendships. One of the key factors for sustainable interactions is trust and a high assessment of the counterparty's reliability, – the result of a long personal acquaintance. The priority in establishing and maintaining contacts is the personal qualities of contractors, and only then – their resource security. The importance of the reciprocity principle, which applies to both “long” and “short” relationships, is revealed. the former are more based on rationalism and material reward, while the latter are based on empathy and spontaneity.
