Abstract
Different conceptions about metaphors and their role in the humanities are considered. A number of generalization concerning metaphors as analytic-and-synthesis instrument which mediates processes of understanding, interpetation and generation of a new scientific knowledge are stated. By its means main approaches to Self study were analyzed. Importance of new root metaphors identification is based; problems of introduction of new generalized metaphor for the theory of Self in psychology are discussed.
