Abstract
The paper describes the Russian system of head pointing. The author analyzes the data of the Multimodal Russian Corpus (MURCO) from the statistical point of view, and singles out the main semantic, pragmatic, and referential factors, which affect the selection of the type of head pointing as a co-speech gesture. The gestures head forward, tilt, nod, and chin pointing seem to be the most frequent types of head pointing in Russian. The author also analyzes the relations between head and hand pointing, and the main types of syntactical gestural constructions.
