Abstract
Constructions with an unformed subject in Armenian belong to the so-called non-accusative constructions described in different languages, and are material both for illustrating the phenomenon of non-accusativeness (or split intransition) and for a critical discussion of the theory of non-accusativeness, which is based on a purely syntactic approach. A detailed analysis of Armenian constructions and the contexts in which they are allowed, taking into account the systemic properties of an unformed name in Armenian, shows that we are not dealing with a purely syntactic or purely lexical phenomenon, but with a set of properties of constructions as a whole, in which the decisive role pragmatic signs play.
