Abstract
The article poses the task of a comprehensive semiotic description of human body parts, taking into account the data of both natural language and body language. To solve it, as an alternative to the traditional lexicographic description, a fundamentally new "feature" approach is proposed: the signs of body parts (shape, size, orientation, movement, etc.) are identified and the meanings that they take in verbal language and in non-verbal somatic codes are indicated. The values of these signs are compared and presented in the form of a single database reflecting the semiotic representation of the body and its parts. As an example of one of such signs, the article discusses in detail the sign of the shape of body parts. It is shown that the feature of form is complex and contains a large number of aspects of a static and dynamic nature that are relevant for semiotic conceptualization of body parts. At the end of the article, an important concept of the reference shape of a body part is introduced.
