Аннотация
Археологические памятники в сухих пещерах Большого Бассейна на западе Североамериканского континента содержат хорошо сохранившиеся образцы древней плетеной обуви. Осуществляемая в настоящее время программа прямого радиоуглеродного AMS-датирования по растительным волокнам позволяет определить хронологическую динамику разных типов обуви, начиная с раннего голоцена. Согласно калиброванным датам, древнейшие сандалии типа Форт Рок появились более 10 000 лет назад (л.н.) и существовали до 9100 л.н. Сандалии двух других типов – с множественной основой и со спиральным утко́м – появились около 9400 л.н. Все три типа сосуществовали в очень коротком интервале 9400–9100 л.н. Причины исчезновения плетеной обуви типа Форт Рок пока неясны, однако по времени это совпало с рядом заметных событий в культурной истории региона. Тип сандалий с множественной основой и тип со спиральным утко́м существовали и в позднеголоценовое время. Однако в последовательности дат для этих двух типов отмечен существенный разрыв, соответствующий среднему голоцену. Несмотря на это, данные типы обуви показывают стилистическую и технологическую преемственность на протяжении более 9000 лет, что подтверждается и другими образцами древнего и этнографического плетения из района Большого Бассейна. Так, техника “плетения Кэтлоу”, известная по находкам корзин в археологических памятниках, используется у индейцев кламат и модок.
