Abstract
The article discusses the main approaches to the study of the cultural potential of young University teachers of the Ural Federal district, considered as one of the leading subjects of cultural activity in the social space of the region. Data from mass surveys and group focused interviews serve as an empirical base. A high level of involvement of young teachers in the cultural space is revealed cities, the desire to actively spend leisure time. At the same time, the unstable identity of the young intelligentsia, consumer attitude to the cultural space, passivity and lack of self-organization are noted. The city's young intellectuals do not recognize themselves as a group capable of cultural transformation.
