Abstract
The work examines the linguistic data of the remnants of the Ligurian language and takes the view of those researchers who saw two layers in Ligurian: non-Indo-European and Indo-European (Indo-European). For obvious reasons, this layer is the main focus. The study showed that the available data do not allow us to see in it the so-called language of the Paraceltic circle. The hypothesis about the intermediate position of Ligurian between the Italic and Celtic languages, accepted by many researchers, also does not find confirmation. However, the denial of the very fact of the existence of an Indo-European (or Indo-Europeanized) Ligurian language other than Celtic, which has become a fairly common place in the writings of many celtologists of the last decade, seems unacceptable.
