Abstract
It is shown that pronouns for whatever, like pronouns for -or, belong to the number of words with negative polarization, i.e. used in the context of denial and in contexts “semantically related” to negation. A feature of pronouns, whatever it may be, is that they are used in the context of and mpl and t about negation included in the semantic decomposition of a word, so that compatibility with whatever makes it possible to identify classes of words with syntactically active negative component. The interchangeability of any with any and everyone reveals additional aspects of the semantics of these classes of words.
