Abstract
The article describes Russian phraseological somatisms - phraseological units with the names of bodily objects. The main purpose of the work is to substantiate three provisions related to phraseological theory and methodology for describing phraseological units. A number of observations on the nature of phraseological somatisms and their behavior in context are presented. A connection is established between phraseological somatisms and phraseological theory, on the one hand, and semiotic conceptualization of the body and semiotics of corporeality, on the other. All statements are illustrated by examples of phraseological units and free combinations with the notation of somatisms.
