- Abstract
- The article examines the main directions of modern foreign science about verse, which exists in two versions: as the science of "prosodic" (ie literary) metric and as the science of the "isochronous" (ie song) metric. Studies of these types require different approaches, but for the most part, one way or another, they rely on generative theory (especially in its applications to phonology). It also briefly reviews recent studies on metric typology.
