- Abstract
- Despite the fact that the dialects of the Eastern Slavs were very close, they had specific terms (or specific variants of common Slavic terms) and their own phonetic features. This makes it possible, based on the areal analysis of some groups of toponyms, to clarify the migration routes and areas of preferential settlement of the chronicle tribes (Vyatichi, Krivichi, northerners) in Central Russia. A detailed analysis carried out for the territory of Suzdal Rus showed that the first wave of Krivichi, whose dialect formed the basis of the Russian dialects of this territory, did not go along the Upper Volga (from the Polotsk-Smolensk lands), but to the north - along Msta, and then along Tvertsa and Mologa, i.e. from the Pskov-Novgorod limits.
