Abstract
This analysis of sixteen French translations, published between 1842 and 2012, of Alexander Pushkin’s short story «Queen of Spades» traces the fate of several linguo-stylistic features of the original. This study centers on the problem of narrative (the status of the narrator, internal points of view in their lexical expression) and problems of conveying lexical parallelisms. The paper also considers stylistic aspects of literalism, other ways in which translators approach these problems, as well as differences in literature scholars’ and translators’ interpretations of Pushkin’s text, including those moments that could be interpreted alternatively as author’s carelessness or stylistic devices.
