Abstract
The article deals with the semantic derivatives of the word hell in Russian folk dialects and folk-spoken language. The derivational semantics of Russian is compared. hell and its lexical equivalents in Indo-European languages ​​- Slavic (continents * pьkъlъ), Germanic (English hell, German Hölle), Romance (Italian, port.inferno, French enfer, Spanish in fi erno), etc. The main motivational signs that underlie derivation and give the most obvious differences in derivational semantics in different languages: “that which devours”, “where noise, disorder → scandals reign”, “where (sinners) burn”, “that is a depression, a hole. " It is established that for the development of semantics based on Russian. hell is the most productive sign of devouring, absorption.
