- Abstract
- The article proposes a typology of labile verbs (i.e. verbs that can act as transitive or intransitive without changing the form). Derivative, syntactic and semantic classifications of labile verbs are considered, and where possible, the patterns of distribution of labile verbs in languages of various areas are formulated and the connection of lability with other features of the grammar of languages is noted (in particular, with the system of indicators of actant derivation and the type of marking of verb actants) ... The relationship of labile verbs with indicators of causative and decausative is considered in most detail. Finally, a hypothesis about the function of lability in the language system is put forward and illustrated by examples: it is proposed to consider that lability serves to combine similar meanings within the framework of one verbal lexeme.
