Abstract
The article provides a comparative analysis of three alternative approaches (paradigms) to the description of the language and some concepts representing these approaches: F. de Saussure, I.A. Melchuk, A. Vezhbitskaya, J. Lakoff, and others. Two recent (last quarter of the 20th century) discoveries in cognitive psychology are considered, which make it possible to assess the prospects of the discussed paradigms. The interpretation of linguistic meaning as a conceptual system of a special type - a product of the stage-by-stage development of the conceptual world of a child is proposed.
