Abstract
The article presents the results of an empirical study conducted in 2004. Based on the analysis of the obtained data, a portrait of the practical professional activity of University teachers is formed, their motivation and role models are studied, which act as a conventional norm that has developed among University teachers. The external conditions of teaching are also studied. In the study were able to identify and confirm some of the negative and positive trends in the professional activities of teachers and outline possible solutions to the detected problems, supplementing ongoing reforms in the field of higher education.
