Abstract
The article analyzes changes in the ethnic composition of the population of the Belgorod region, reflected on ethnographic maps of different periods (late XIX - early XXI century). Based on archival and modern sources, the author describes the nature of the settlement of the main ethnic groups (Russians and Ukrainians) in different parts of the study region, as well as the features of the relationship of ethnic communities in different historical periods. The paper examines the reasons for the multiple reduction of the Ukrainian population of Belgorod region in the 1930s and subsequent forms of its assimilation.
