- Abstract
- The main theoretical task of this work is to further develop - already on a comparative basis - a metalanguage for describing the kind of explanation that was called counterfactual (CO) in an earlier publication by the author [Ragozina 2008], as well as in refining and deepening the method of calculating its varieties, or models. The purpose of the work is, firstly, to demonstrate the relevance of calculated models using specific examples, and, secondly, to identify a standard set of structural and grammatical means necessary for the implementation of CO in Russian in comparison with French. The material for the study is Russian-French and French-Russian literary examples (original-translation) drawn from the novels of Dostoevsky and the works of some French writers.
